What made you consider nursing as a program of study?

I chose nursing as the program I wanted to pursue because I have always wanted to make an impact in people’s lives. I was also drawn to nursing because there is a variety of routes you can take within the profession.

Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?

The reason I chose WVU School of Nursing is because I have a few family members who are WVU SON alumni, and they have spoken highly of the education they were provided. I specifically chose the Potomac State campus because I am from a very small town, so I enjoy the tight-knit atmosphere that the Keyser Campus nursing program provides.

Could you share a positive experience from your time at the SON?

The most positive experience during my time in the SON would be with my nursing instructor Dr. Abucevicz-Swick. Without her commitment to helping me succeed, I would not be where I am today.

What’s one piece of advice you would give your freshman self?

Do not beat yourself up over not getting the score you wanted on an exam or getting a level 1 on an ATI. It is not the end of the world. Keep your head up, study harder for the next one, and keep moving on.

What are your plans after graduation?

First, I plan on passing the NCLEX. After that I will be working in the Emergency Department at Winchester Medical Center.

How do you feel WVU prepared you for your next chapter?

WVU SON has only set me up to succeed after I complete school. I feel that the SON has given me an excellent education and a solid foundation in nursing.
