RN to Bachelor of Science

Duration:
RN to BSN Program | WVU School of Nursing

Our 100% asynchronous online RN to BSN program offers licensed registered nurses who are graduates of nationally accredited diploma and associate degree nursing programs the opportunity to complete requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN).

Applicants with a current, unencumbered RN license and a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 are encouraged to apply. Applicants with an overall GPA of 2.0 to 2.49 may be considered for provisional admission.

The RN to BSN program is designed for completion in as little as three semesters of study once all general education requirements are completed. All nursing courses are offered as web courses and a total of 30 credits of nursing coursework via enrollment are required to complete the RN-BSN program.

Throughout their academic experiences, students will focus on the five core competencies that provide the framework for the RN-BSN curriculum, including critical thinking, nursing interventions, professional role, caring, and communication which are outlined in more detail in our Student Handbook

*The School offers in-state tuition for all students enrolled in the RN-BSN program, regardless of residency.

RN to BSN Progression Plans

Depending on if you enter the RN to BSN program as a full- or part-time student, the progression plan will vary.

Clinical Experiences

Although RN to BSN students are required to complete direct and indirect clinical experiences, these are embedded within the WVU School of Nursing RN to BSN curriculum. Clinical assignments are designed to enrich coursework and differ from pre-licensure clinical assignments in that they are not precepted by a faculty member and can be completed at the student’s individual location. The purpose of these clinical experiences is to advance professional growth and assist students in demonstrating proficiencies essential to BSN-prepared nursing practice.

Community Service

All RN to BSN students will be required to complete 25 hours of community service during their time in the program. The purpose of community service is to foster civic responsibility, enhance hands on learning experience, and assist students in identifying and meeting health and social needs of the community. Students can complete hours at their leisure in a variety of settings. Online community service opportunities are also available through WVU iServe.

Partner Programs

The WVU School of Nursing currently partners with 11 community colleges for RN to BSN transfer agreements, which provide students the affordability and proximity of a community college, with the opportunity to seamlessly transfer into a fully online RN to BSN program with us.

The program can be completed on a busy work schedule. The deadlines for work submissions are very reasonable and attainable. Yes, being an RN for so long and going back to school can be intimidating. However, your goals are worth the time and the effort to complete.
