WVU School of Nursing now offers five post-MSN areas of study

Three additional post-MSN certificate programs are now offered by the WVU School of Nursing including Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP) Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Nurse Executive Leadership (NEL) certificate programs.

The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP) Nurse Practitioner program prepares currently licensed and certified family, adult or gerontology primary care advanced practice nurses to meet the needs for advanced adult gerontology nursing care in acute care settings. Graduates of this program will meet all requirements to sit for the national certification examination offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Association of Critical Care Nurses specific to this select population.

The 16-21 credit hour program is taught online and requires 500 clinical hours in the acute care advanced practice role.

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program prepares advanced practice nurses to meet the needs for advanced psychiatric mental health nursing care in their communities. Graduates of this program will meet all requirements to sit for national certification in psychiatric mental health.

The 21-25 credit hour program is taught online with a requirement of at least 500 clinical hours in the psychiatric mental health advanced practice role.

The Nurse Executive Leadership (NEL) certificate program is specifically designed for current nursing professionals who hold a Master’s degree or higher in nursing. These nurses may be working in advanced practice, education, administration and/or direct patient care roles.

The 22-credit hour program will be taught online with a requirement of 300 clinical hours.

Graduates will be prepared for Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or ​the Certified Nurse Executive Practice (CENP)​certification through the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL).

In addition to these programs, the School of Nursing offers post-masters programs in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) areas of study.
