Keyser junior selected as WVU School of Nursing ambassador

KEYSER, W.Va. — The West Virginia University School of Nursing Keyser Campus has selected Jessica Maynard to represent the school as an ambassador.

Maynard, of Keyser, is a junior in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

Established in Fall 2022 on the Morgantown Campus, the ambassador scholarship program provides selected students with a $500 scholarship per semester. Ambassadors represent the school at recruitment events and activities, as well as work office hours on non-event weeks.

“I wanted to become an ambassador to share my passion of nursing with prospective and current students,” Maynard said. “I chose to pursue nursing because of the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of patients in need.”

Maynard was also selected in October 2022 as a WV Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Rural Health Scholar.

The ambassador program was established by recruitment specialist Phillip Engelkemier, who saw how valuable the experience and knowledge of current nursing students can be for prospective students. The program on the Keyser Campus will be led by Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair.

Maynard joins Morgantown ambassadors Ateria Walker, Aiden Slusser and Kylie Dick, along with Beckley ambassador Kaitlyn Sizemore.
