WVU School of Nursing to offer post-APRN certificate program in adult-gerontology acute care

Applications are now being accepted

The West Virginia University Board of Governors recently gave the green light to the WVU School of Nursing to offer a post-APRN certificate program in adult-gerontology acute care.

The program will be available to currently licensed and certified family, adult or gerontology primary care nurse practitioners who have at least two years of experience in direct patient care in an advanced practice role.

“We recognized the need to empower advanced practice registered nurses with the formal skills and training in this specialty area and address a statewide demand,” said Tara Hulsey, PhD, dean of the WVU School of Nursing and vice president of Health Promotion and Wellness at WVU. “Now more than ever, we need nurse practitioners who can care for adult patients with acute and chronic health conditions.”

Applications for the program are now being accepted on the School’s website with classes to begin August 2020. The 16-21 credit hour program will be taught online with a requirement of 500 clinical hours in the acute care advanced practice role.

Graduates of the post-APRN certificate program will be able to sit for the adult-gerontology acute care national certification exam.
