Dr. Angel Smothers, associate dean for community engagement at the WVU School of Nursing, recently joined the board of directors at Wellspring of Greenbrier, a nonprofit organization that has provided food, clothing, and other basic necessities to disadvantaged, unhoused, and transient populations in Southern West Virginia for over two decades.

Courtney Riley has always had an interest in healthcare. Her academic journey at West Virginia University gave her experience in child development, psychology and communications, but her path took a turn and led her to the David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety.
Eight nursing faculty complete STEPS Simulation Certification Program
During the summer, eight WVU School of Nursing faculty members completed the STEPS Simulation Certification Program. The certification, offered by the WVU David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS), is designed for instructors with interest in quality teaching with simulation.
Thompson named recipient of award honoring excellence in simulation education at WVU
Tonya Thompson, DNP, RN has been named the recipient of the 2024 David H. Wilks Memorial Award for Excellence in Simulation presented by the West Virginia University David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education Patient Safety.
